Three WILDCARDS for the Kaizer Chiefs job

Give up on the Pitso Mosimane to Kaizer Chiefs dream, it’s not happening. Here are three wildcard candidates who could be viable options.

Wildcard candidates for the vacant Kaizer Chiefs job

Florent Ibengé

The 62-year-old Congolese boss has plenty of footballing pedigree. He’s at the helm of Al Hilal club in Sudan and boasts vast managerial experience. Winner of the CAF Confederation Cup and Moroccan Cups in 2022, he’s also no stranger to lifting silverware in recent times. He also took charge of the DR Congo national team on 57 occasions between 2014 and 2019.

Lehlohonolo Seema

Whereas Ibengé has enjoyed stellar success, 43-year-old Lehlohonolo Seema is at the start of his journey. He hasn’t had the glitziest jobs, but he’s built up an impressive body of work across South Africa’s football pyramid. He’s enjoyed various roles at the now-defunct Bloem Celtic, the caretaker manager tole at Black Leopards and then head coaching jobs at Chippa, Golden Arrows and Polokwane City. Sekhukhune hired Seema in November 2023. In just four months, he’s overseen nine league matches. He’s won five of those, with three draws and one defeat. This is a serious football team punching above their weight in a big way. If this man isn’t being strongly considered, the Amakhosi top brass simply aren’t paying enough attention.

Rui Vitória

Finally, 54-year-old Portuguese Rui Vitória is a legitimate option according to FARPost. His experience is vast and impressive. He’s won silverware across Europe, Africa and Saudi Arabia. If you have Benfica, Spartak Moscow, Al-Nassr and the Egypt national team on your CV, chances are you’re doing something right. The 54-year-old would be a bold and ambitious choice. Besides, what’s the point if they aren’t going to reach for the stars?

“The former Egypt national team coach (Vitoria) boasts extensive experience in Europe and the Middle East. That includes a stint with Benfica. Known for his tactical acumen, he has two Portuguese titles with Benfica and a Saudi Arabian title with Al Nassr. Vitoria, who turns 55 next month, has won eight trophies. He is currently without a club having left the Pharaohs’ job in February 2024 after a disappointing AFCON tournament. Vitoria holds a UEFA Pro.”
