Friday, February 25, 2022 – Deputy President William Ruto has finally broken his silence after President Uhuru Kenyatta endorsed former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in August.
Uhuru endorsed Raila‘s bid at Sagana State Lodge on Wednesday, where he met over 30,000 Mt Kenya leaders and opinion shapers.
Speaking on Thursday while campaigning in Kitui County, Ruto said he respects the decision of the president endorsing Raila Odinga since it is his democratic right to do so.
“I am aware that my friend, the President of the Republic of Kenya, has decided in his democratic right to support my competitor.
“I respect his decision and opinion,” Ruto said.
However, Ruto said the President is not his competitor in the State House race, adding he was ready to face Raila at the ballot.
He dared Raila, his strongest challenger in the race, to move out of the President’s shadow and face him head-on.
“And, therefore, I ask Mr. Kitendawili (Raila) not to hide behind President Uhuru Kenyatta.
“He must step forward and compete with me,” Ruto said.
