Thursday, February 24, 2022 – President Uhuru Kenyatta held a meeting with Mt Kenya politicians and opinion shapers on Wednesday, where he urged them to support former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s presidential bid in August.
Uhuru, in his speech, said Raila Odinga is a democratic, a patriot and a person who holds Kenyan interests at heart unlike his deputy, William Ruto, who he termed as a thief of public money.
The President also rallied the Mt Kenya electorate to support the ‘old man’ because he has demonstrated that he can unify all Kenyans once he is elected the President in August.
However, reacting to Uhuru’s meeting at Sagana State Lodge, Malindi Member of Parliament, Aisha Jumwa, an ally of DP Ruto, said the region is solidly behind the second in command and no amount of persuasion will force the residents to change their support for Ruto.
Jumwa further said selling Raila Odinga in the Mt Kenya region is like ‘selling pork in a mosque’ and said even the President is aware of this.
