Third UENR Vice-Chancellor inducted into office
The third Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako has been inducted into office at a colorful ceremony.
Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako takes over from Professor Harrison Dapaah and will be steering the affairs of the university for the next four years.
Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako speaking at the ceremony noted that he is prepared and committed to serving the institution.
He noted that he would ensure that the internally generated fund of the institution is increased and make good use of the income in order to achieve financial sustainability.
“The expansion and increase in demand for education play a constraint on central government funding to tertiary and for that matter UENR. We, therefore, need innovative ways to increase our internally generated funds in order to achieve financial sustainability. In line with global best practice and trends, we would establish UENR Enterprise Limited as a business wing of the University.”
“We would commercialize our research findings through patents under UENR Enterprise Limited. The UENR Enterprise would be encouraged to partner with private entities to set up joint business ventures in the production sector where we have the competence,” he added.
Professor Asare-Bediako also noted that the Centre for Distance Education and E-learning would be established to facilitate E-learning.
He added that there would be an expansion of the information and communication facilities in all the campuses of the university.
He further added that the institution would increase its research activities to attract more students from Ghana and outside.
The outgoing Vice-Chancellor of UENR, Professor Harrison Dapaah commended the university community for their support during his tenure.
Professor Dapaah congratulated the new Vice-Chancellor and urged the university community to support him as they did for him.
The Director-General of the Governing Council of the Tertiary Education Commission, Professor Mohammed Salifu, commended the Council of the university for doing diligent work in the selection of a new Vice-Chancellor.
