The South African Quote of the Day – Steve Biko

A number of South Africans from diverse backgrounds across the spectrum have uttered some meaningful words over the years.

LAUGHTER IS THE BEST MEDICINE: CLICK FOR THE SOUTH AFRICAN’S JOKE OF THE DAY

Bantu Stephen Biko was a South African anti-apartheid activist.

Ideologically an African nationalist and African socialist, he was at the forefront of a grassroots anti-apartheid campaign known as the Black Consciousness Movement during the late 1960s and 1970s.

Biko died on 12 September 1977 aged 30 having sustained extensive brain injuries from beatings by South African security officers.

Biko said: “We know that all interracial groups in South Africa are relationships in which whites are superior, blacks inferior. So as a prelude, whites must be made to realise that they are only human, not superior. Same with blacks. They must be made to realise that they are also human, not inferior.”
