The Oswin Appollis saga intensifies in Soweto

There’s trouble rumbling in Soweto.

Kaizer Chiefs were agonisingly close to signing 23-year-old Oswin Appollis – if ‘Polokwane City’s’ chairman Johnny Mogaladi didn’t ‘mysteriously’ become uncontactable during the last week of the winter transfer window, they would have.

But, they had no way of doing so without contact from Mogaladi.

AmaKhosi are still keen on bringing Appollis to Soweto. However, league leaders and neighbours Orlando Pirates have joined the race, and it seems they are ahead going into the final few corners.

According to Soccer Laduma, the Buccaneers have a greater rapport with Mogaladi, who is a notoriously strict negotiator, which the Chiefs found out the hard way.

Injury concerns for chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs injury list keeps growing – the next culprit is goalkeeper Fiacre Ntwari.

The Soweto giants number one was experiencing a dip in form before pulling up lame at the AFCON qualifiers – former AmaKhosi ‘keeper William Shongwe believes Ntwari must step up when he returns.

“Chiefs signed a good goalkeeper in Ntwari; he’s playing for his national team as well, but the only place where I can actually blame him is his attributes,” Shongwe told FARPost.

“His saving, decision-making and ball distribution are not quality. He lacks the quality of [Itumeleng] Khune, but I’m not comparing him with Khune,” the former Kaizer Chiefs number one continued.

“That’s where I can put a finger on him; for me, that’s something he should improve on. I think the coaches should plan and come up with a solution for this.

“If he improves on that, he may become one of the top keepers in this league. They can do better. I know the coaches are still new at the club; they are still learning, but the pressure is mounting,” Shongwe added.

Which side of Soweto do you think Appollis will go to?
