Sudan can now beat Ghana because they use more local players – Skyy FC boss

Wilson Arthur, owner of Division One side Skyy FC, has pointed to the use of local players as the key reason why Ghana is struggling to beat teams like Sudan, despite their abundance of talent.Ghana has faced surprising difficulties against teams with limited football history, such as Comoros, Madagascar, and the Central African Republic. Most recently, the Black Stars were stunned by a 2-0 loss to Sudan in the ongoing 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers, led by former Ghana coach Kwesi Appiah.Arthur attributes this to the commitment and hunger of local-based players compared to the current Black Stars squad, which features several foreign-based professionals. He believes that local players, who are more dedicated and eager to seize opportunities, would perform better for the national team.National teams we used to beat easily are now beating us, and it’s because they are using a lot of their local players who camp together longer and play as a cohesive unit,” Arthur said. “Most of our players dont seem hungry enough.”Arthur went on to suggest that Ghana should expand the Black Stars squad by including more local players from the Ghana Premier League, as well as those playing in other African leagues. He believes these players would show greater commitment than some of the foreign-based stars currently on the team.I believe teams like Dreams FC, Medeama, or even Samartex can beat this Sudanese side, Arthur boldly claimed.
