Springboks: TWO stars careers over? – UPDATE

A couple of huge Springboks stars may be forced to retire due to serious injuries.

Springboks veteran Steven Kitshoff faces an uncertain future after recent neck surgery.

Meanwhile, Deon Fourie may also be forced to retire. Here is the latest on both players.

SPRINGBOKS VETERAN UNDERGOES SURGERY

Kitshoff recently underwent fusion surgery to his neck.

Meaning, the Bok veteran faces a nervy wait following his career-defining surgery. However, given the nature of his injury (serious neck injury) and his position (prop), he may be forced to retire early.

Moreover, as a prop, there is constant pressure and strain on your neck. Therefore, there is a higher chance of him retiring than returning, logically. However, Kitshoff and the Boks have not made a decision on his career at the time of publication.

Kitshoff was pain free leading up to his surgery, according to SARugbyMag.

FOURIE UNLIKELY TO FEATURE FOR SA AGAIN

Fourie has not played for the Springboks since the 2023 Rugby World Cup final.

The explosive Stormers loose forward injured his ACL back in April and has been ruled out ever since.

Furthermore, he was already one of the oldest players still playing international rugby. At 38, he is certainly entering the latter stages of his career. Even if he does return. Interestingly, Fourie has also not officially retired yet.
