Springboks: End of his Bok career?

Springboks: End of his Bok career?

This Springboks star is no doubt a fan-favourite. However, recent events make for grim reading.

Rassie Erasmus has the task of ushering in the new era if Springboks stars in tandem with choosing who to let go and when.

There is no doubt that the depth of SA Rugby is at an all-time high. However, this does mean some tough decisions need to be made to veteran players. This Bok veteran may have played for the Boks for the last time already.

SPRINGBOK VETERAN BOK DAYS ARE LIKELY OVER

Springboks veteran, Trevor Nyakane is unlikely to feature much – if at all in the future for the Boks.

Moreover, he is already 35-years old. So, at 35 he will definitely not feature in the 2027 Rugby World Cup. Meanwhile, despite injuries to Steven Kitshoff and Frans Malherbe, Nyakane did not make the Springboks end of year squad.

Meaning, he has fallen well down the pecking order. Additionally, the likes of Ox Nche, Kitshoff and Malherbe (both injured), Thomas Du Toit, Gerhard Steenakamp, Jan-Hendrik Wessels and Wilco Louw are all ahead in the current selection order.

Therefore, Nyakane days in the green and gold are likely numbered. At the very least, they are entering their later stages but it will be hard for him to get into the Springboks side in the future.

PROPS PROPEL THEIR WAY INTO RASSIES SQUAD

This season we have seen some exciting new talent break into the Bok setup under Rassie.

Firstly, young Wessels offers versatility as one of the few players in world rugby capable of playing prop and hooker. He earned a surprise call-up to the national side when the Springboks travelled to Australia and he will no doubt have a big future ahead of him.

Meanwhile, Steenakamp has earned a lot more minutes this season for the Boks. Both bruising Bulls stars have made their mark and are set to play an integral role the national team in the future.

DO YOU THINK TREVOR NYAKANE’S SPRINGBOKS PLAYING DAYS ARE OVER? WHO SHOULD REPLACE HIM MOVING FORWARD?
