South Africa’s Bayanda Walaza wins 200m title at World U20 Championships – WATCH

South African sprint sensation Bayanda Walaza has added the 200m title to the 100m title he won earlier in the week at the 2024 World Athletics U20 Championships in Lima, Peru.

In doing so, the 18-year-old proved without doubt that he’s the fastest teenage sprinter in the world.

In winning the 200m on Friday, Walaza stopped the clock in a time of 20.52.

Gout Gout from Australia took second in 20.60, with Great Britain’s Jake Odey-Jordan in third in 20.83.

As reported by The South African website, Walaza won the 100m title in a time of 10.19.

Fellow South African, Bradley Nkoana, 19, took bronze in 10.26 with Thailand’s Puripol Boonson splitting the pair in 10.22.

As extensively reported by The South African website, both Bayanda Walaza and Bradley Nkoana (along with Akani Simbine and Shaun Maswanganyi) were part of Team South Africa’s silver medal-winning 4x100m relay quartet at the recent Paris 2024 Olympics

Meanwhile, South Africa’s Viwe Jingqi finished fifth in the women’s 100m final in a time of 11.57.
