Don’t forget, NATIS online allows you 21-day grace period for an expired licence before you must pay a late penalty. This fee is calculated at 10% of the annual licencing fee, added every month for as long as it has lapsed. Plus, if you have an outstanding licence payment on the system, you’ll be unable to register or renew any South African vehicle licence against your name.

WHAT ABOUT ONLINE VEHICLE LICENCE SERVICES?

So, that’s renewal fees covered. But what about ways to renew South African vehicle licences online? Well, time is money, as the saying goes, so if you can save a few hours, even if it costs a little extra, is that not worthwhile? We personally recommend NATIS online, having used it earlier this year. It is quick, convenient and decently priced. Plus, because it is government run, it’s effectively paid for with our taxpayer money – so you might as well get your money’s worth.

To renew South African vehicle licences online through NATIS, it’s as simple as registering a profile. Inputting your personal details: name, surname, identity number, and address particulars. Simply pay the renewal fee and your licence disc will be couriered to your selected address.

  • Visit the NATIS online platform.
  • Select View Motor Renewals.
  • Choose the licence renewal for the car in question.
  • Capture your banking and card details and pay for the licence renewal.
  • Wait for the new licence disc to be couriered to you.

FNB’s app-based service is the cheapest online renewal option at just R69. Launched initially in 2016, it has a service and delivery fee of R199 which has since been scrapped. For FNB customers only.
