Six-man panel conclude investigation on Maroko Police station viral video incident

The six-member investigative panel established by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) for Zone 2 Command, AIG Fayoade M. Adegoke, has completed its inquiry into the incident captured in a viral video.

It will be recalled that the video featured a woman claiming she was detained in a cell at Maroko Police Station alongside male and underage individuals. The panel has submitted its findings, which have been forwarded to the AIG.

The investigative committee was composed of representatives from the media, civil society organizations, legal practitioners, and senior police officers. During the submission of the report, the panel members assured that their investigations were conducted diligently and thoroughly.

They also commended the police for taking proactive steps to address the situation, emphasizing the importance of maintaining public trust and reinforcing the commitment to minimizing human rights abuses within the police force.

Receiving the report, AIG Fayoade M. Adegoke thanked the panel for their dedication and thorough investigation.

He said “the findings would be forwarded to the Inspector General of Police (IGP) for further consideration and necessary action. I am committed to upholding the rule of law and ensuring that policing in Zone 2 remains transparent and respectful of citizens’ rights.”
