Devan Cox is a constable in SAPS’ Flying Squad department. But when he’s not saving lives and catching the bad guys, he’s working on his enviable physique.

He said: “On my off days, I try and keep fit. I run, cycle, and swim. I want to live a healthy life.”

And the question many ladies, and some gents want to know – is he single?

He told the Port Elizabeth radio station: “I’m not married, but I am a father of two boys. So a single dad”.

When asked if he’s ever had a criminal resist an arrest, or single him out to handcuff them, Devan responded: “Maybe after this”.

Meanwhile, South Africans on social media are appealing to police officers to follow in the footsteps of Devan Cox by staying fit and healthy.

Joys Tweleni:  “They should make posters of him and put it in every police station. Maybe the rest of SAPS will become motivated”

Mmeme Ciro: “We need more of him, please.”

Julie Van Damme Lagoe: “Bring these fit and healthy policemen back.”

According to Daily Voice, SAPS has recently signed a deal with two gym companies in the country to offer discounts to their members.

National Police Commissioner Fannie Masemola said: “The benefits are also extended to all members who have existing contracts with the two gym giants. If we are healthy, we will lessen our visits to hospitals and clinics.”

“Part of policing requires police officers who will be able to chase after criminals when the situation calls for it. Keeping healthy offers great benefits for wellness.”

He added: “Being physically fit is one of the much-needed attributes for police officers. And in this regard, we do support the initiative.”
