Wednesday, February 16, 2022 – Former Water, Sanitation and Irrigation Cabinet Secretary, Sicily Kariuki, has revealed the last conversation she had with President Uhuru Kenyatta before resigning from the cabinet.
Speaking during an interview yesterday, Kariuki stated that Uhuru inquired if she had thought through her decision to quit her role in government and join politics.
The Nyandarua gubernatorial aspirant disclosed that she explained to her former boss the steps she had taken before making the decision to throw her hat into the murky world of politics.
According to Kariuki, she told the Head of State that she had extensively consulted her family members and close friends who backed her decision to join the Nyandarua gubernatorial race.
“When the final moment came when I was to meet with the president to take my letter of resignation, I talked to him and explained to him what had I had decided.”
“He asked me if I had thought through the decision extensively. I told him that it was a journey that took quite some time and that I did not just wake up to join politics,” she disclosed.
She further explained that she was close to her family and had to consult them before making a change in her career.
“On several occasions, I thought about the decision. I used to ask myself several questions and answer them by myself. When I went home or met my close friends, I asked them the same thing.”
“He(Uhuru) accepted and I wrote my resignation letter and on February 10, I went to bid my boss farewell. I can say I followed due procedure in this,” she stated.
Kariuki is expected to face off with the incumbent and former secretary to Cabinet Francis Kimemia.
The two have indicated that they will contest for the seat on the Azimio La Umoja ticket.
