“Rollable phones” are all the rage. Oppo and LG already gave a sneak peek of their upcoming devices. Samsung has now joined the race as well.

We said earlier this month that rollable phones will eventually replace foldable smartphones, and included Samsung’s “mystery device” in the lineup after it was spotted in Seoul, South Korea.

Furthermore, Samsung’s Lee Jae-Yong showed off an unreleased phone at the manufacturing giant’s offices. We can’t say for certain if it’s the same as the patent, but it could very well be.

Based on the blurry image, it appeared to thin to be a foldable phone. Samsung’s mystery device, if rollable, could also sport a flexible panel made of plastic.

Samsung also showed off a retractable Galaxy phone at CES 2020. Samsung now reportedly wants to manufacture a flexible display panel that can transform a 6-inch phone into an 8-inch tablet.

Based on the information available, 3D designer Jermaine Smit, aka Concept Creator in collaboration with Let’s Go Digital designed a Samsung Galaxy Note rollable concept device.

The device appears to be a 6-inch smartphone at first glance. However, it can transform into a tablet so the user has a larger screen surface to work this. That is unfortunately all we know about the mystery device at this stage.

That said, other competitors are closing in on the rollable device concept, so Samsung would hopefully release new information in due course in order to stay ahead of the race.

As it stands, Oppo and TCL have only shown a concept phone, while LG hinted during a presentation of the Wing smartphone that the next Explorer Project smartphone will be a pull-out device with a roll-up display.

We can expect LG to release their upcoming flagship device in March 2021. We also have Mobile World Congress 2021 coming up, so fingers crossed that we’ll see more rollable devices soon.
