The proprietress of the Sammy M. Dukuly (SMD) Memorial School System in the Soul Clinic community, Watta Holmes, has called on the government through the Ministry of Education for budgetary support to enable her to educate more Liberians for futures challenges.

Deacon Holmes, who spoke at the souvenir program marking the 41st anniversary of the SMD in Paynesville, emphasized that providing adequate financial support to the SMD will enable the SMD to respond fully to the educational needs of young people in the country.

The celebration, which took placed on Wednesday, May 5, 2021, at the C.C. A Field located in Soul Clinic, was graced by parents, students and the entire administrative staff of the SMD. Currently, the school has four branches in Montserrado County and its environs that is buttressing the efforts of the national government.

She said running a school for 41st years without any form of subsidy from the national government is not an easy task.

However, Deacon Holmes stated that she is still trying her possible best to provide sound and quality education to Liberian children.

“You know what it means for a single mother and a widow to operate a school for 41st year in Liberia without a single support from outside? It has to be God. No subsidy from know where, no donor or sponsor from anywhere only whatever we received from parents and through the Grace of God we are ably managing the operations of the school,” she said.

Deacon Holmes further appealed to the MOE to advocate for budgetary allotment for the school during the pending national fiscal budget.

She said: “We need the attention of the government to come to our help in our quest of providing quality, sound education to Liberian. SMD is not just a mere school, we have produce ministers, assistant ministers, directors and this while we are making this massive awareness calling on the attention of the Government,” she continued, “It will look simple to you but it had not been easy because you will have people that will encourage you, discourage you, yet we still have some committed and some good dedicated one but it has to be God”.

Deacon Holmes further encouraged the parents that Sammy M. Dukuly is here for you and to ensure that “our children become a better future leader of tomorrow.”

According to her, SMD is under the supervision of the MOE and, as such “we should be given a subsidy from national government.”

Deacon Holmes said: “We put our time and some people will say the people like money, everyone loved money but when you love money you should be able to put it to work and money into actions.

“When the people pay, let their children be able to achieve and this is what Sammy M. Dukuly stands for and this is while we can see today that we have been so blessed. You know man will not praise you but God will always bless you.”

She used the occasion to acknowledge the efforts of all the hardworking and supportive parents of the SMD for always making sure that their children receive the best education in Liberia.

The SMD proprietress further urged the parents to keep supporting their children for a better future.

She said the foundation is all about Christ and “this is our strength as well as hope that is keeping our dream alive.”

Meanwhile, several personalities who attended the occasion yesterday made separate remarks included Apostle David N. Zayzay, founder and General Overseer of the Apostolic Reflective Kingdom.

The program was characterized by series of stage performances included praise and worship songs, dramas, ballet dance, respectively.
