Samburu: Suspected thief lynched in botched robbery

A suspected thief was Tuesday night killed by an irate mob while his accomplice escaped with serious injuries during a botched robbery in Maralal town.

The two were attacked after they were ambushed while on a mission to steal goats from one of the homes within the town.

Police received the report about the incident, half an hour later and rushed to the scene only to find one of the suspects already dead.

Samburu central police sub county commander Alex Rotich says the second suspect is admitted at Samburu county referral hospital in critical condition.

“wananchi responded to calls for help, beat up the two and one of them died while another one was injured,” he said

The body of the dead suspended was taken to Samburu county referral hospital mortuary.

Rotich urged members of the public not to take the law into their own hands while dealing with suspected criminals but instead hand them over to authorities for subsequent action.

“I am appeal to wananchi not to take the law into their own hands, they could have informed police on time instead of killing the deceased,” he said.
