World Rugby came down hard on both SA Rugby and its director of rugby, Rassie Erasmus, in its verdict following their two independent misconduct hearings.

As part of the judgement after World Rugby issued a charge of misconduct, Erasmus has been suspended with immediate effect from all rugby activities for two months

In addition, he has been suspended from all match-day activities (including coaching, contact with match officials, and media engagement) with immediate effect until 30 September, 2022.

The ruling also includes “a warning as to his future conduct and an apology to the relevant match officials”.

It of course means that Erasmus will not be able to fulfil a role as a water carrier, or in the coaches box, when the Springboks take on England at Twickenham this Saturday.

On Friday, Erasmus took to Twitter to post a photo of him enjoying a Guinness beer, with the caption: “Sad not to be with the boys! Captain’s practice time now. I do, however, get the feeling the two months will not be so bad as feared.”

He shared another post later on to say it was unfortunate that he wouldn’t be able to make contact or assist the Springbok Women’s team in any way for the next couple of months.

Weldone and thanks ladies!! Also thank you England team for “REALLY” helping and supporting. Unfortunately I won’t be able to make contact and support you in any way for next 2 months! Enjoy the Boks and Twickenham tmrow! pic.twitter.com/zQh5xbAyl3

On Thursday, Erasmus had also clearly seen the funny side of a meme playfully suggesting he might make a sneak appearance at Twickenham on Saturday.

The meme relates to a video that emerged last weekend showing Erasmus pointing out a Scotland player’s weakness that could be exploited by the Boks.

OPINION: WHY RASSIE BAN ISN’T NEARLY AS BAD AS IT SEEMS

In the clip, South Africa’s director of rugby looks to be communicating with fullback Willie le Roux.

Erasmus points to a Scotland player, and appears to mouth the words “he’s kak” while mimicking him catching the high ball.
