Rukungiri: FDC Activists Remanded Over Protest

Rukungiri Grade I Magistrate’s court on Thursday charged and remanded 5 Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) activists for   inciting violence.

The suspects include Boaz Kamusiime, 24, Morris Banini 22, Moses Akampurira 22 and Abel Turyahabwe, all residents of Rukungiri Municipality.

These were on Wednesday arrested along Karegyesa road as they were allegedly inciting the public to demonstrate against the government failure to regulate increasing commodity prices.

They all pleaded not guilty to the charges and through their lawyer Sarah Nasiike of Mark Mwesigye and co-advocates, they applied for bail by presenting their sureties.

Their lawyer urged that the suspects deserved the bail because of different responsibilities they hold at their respective homes and their working stations.

“Some are bread earners of their families so keeping them in jails violates the rights of their families” Counsel Nasiike said.

In reply, the prosecution sought more time to scrutinize the sureties’ documents they presented.

The Magistrate Martin Wakayemba adjourned the case to May 26th 2022 when he is to make a ruling on the bail application and remanded them to Rukungiri central Prison.
