Former Orlando Pirates mentor Roger de Sa has confirmed that he is the new Egyptian national team assistant coach.
De Sa will reunite with former Bafana Bafana coach Carlos Queiroz who was appointed as the new Pharaohs boss last week.
Speaking to Power FM on Thursday, De Sa revealed that he will fly to Egypt on Monday to sign on the dotted line.
“Correct, I’m the assistant coach. I’m leaving on Monday. It happened quickly. These type of jobs don’t come often. You have to take the opportunity and run with it,” confirmed De Sa.
De Sa further clarified that it wasn’t all Queiroz’s call to bring him over as his assistant, saying the Egyptian Football Association (EFA) also wanted him.
However, in the end, De Sa admitted that Queiroz played a huge role in convincing him to leave South Africa for the Pharaohs.
“This was not all Carlos wanting me. It was also the federation’s decision.
“Carlos twisted my arm to take the job. That was always going to be a factor, and he does have his ways,” he said.
The pair worked together during the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa where De Sa was part of Queiroz’s technical team for Portugal.
