Rockstar Games teases new content in mystery ‘GTA Online’ video

2 min read

Rockstar Games released a video on social media which shows a few images of the new location called El Rubio, rumoured to be a tropical island with a plantation space and a resort in GTA Online.

In real life, El Rubio is a town in Spain. Curiouser and curiouser.

‘GTA Online’ mystery video

The video starts off with a loading graphic titled El Rubio Dossier. We then see a body on the beach, simply referred to as a John Doe whose last known whereabouts was the Los Santos International Airport.

The video also informs us that John Doe’s known affiliations include El Rubio before the loading graphic appears again, signalling that the file is shutting down.

Another image of the corpse was shared by GTA Series Videos. In this image, a suitcase can also be seen nearby. Furthermore, the man is wearing only boots, socks and tighty-whities.

His head is bloodied and there are what appears to be footprints in the sand. Eagle-eyed fans also remarked on Twitter that new maps briefly flashed across the screen.

Watch: ‘GTA Online’ sneak peek

He may or may not be wearing a watch, we’re not really sure. Not much else is known about the video or the mission at this stage, other than it being the beginning of a new plot of the alleged DLC.

‘Biggest GTA Online update’

Are we finally seeing the DLC Rockstar promised back in July?

At the time, Rockstar Games referred to it as the “biggest update for ‘GTA Online’”. The developer has remained tight-lipped about the alleged DLC since then, however. We don’t even have a release date.

New content would be refreshing; it’s long overdue and we’ve been left with no new addition to the Grand Theft Auto universe since 2013. So quite frankly, it’s about time.

And no, we do not count the Grand Theft Auto V re-release on PlayStation (PS4) as “new content”, and we refuse to refer to the PS5 edition coming 2021 as new content. Do Halloween updates count?

‘Red Dead Online’ updates

Earlier this year, players were up in arms about the lack of new Red Dead Online content as well, and Rockstar games are hopefully taking notes and working on giving us more. Soon. We hope. We’re not holding our breath.

Red Dead Online received a massive update in July which included a new Frontier Plus and tonnes of community-requested features and an Outlaw Pass.

Rockstar Games at the time also promised that new content will be added regularly and in due course.
