Patients, who were struggling to pay their treatment at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) in Kumasi, have been saved by a road contractor.
The road contractor, Kofi Job, has paid GH¢1 million to pave way for the patients to be allowed to leave the hospital after being treated and discharged.
According to him, he realised that some patients at KATH, due to financial constraints, were being kept at the hospital despite being treated and discharged to go home.
In this regard, he decided to extend a helping hand to patients who were cash-strapped so they could leave the hospital and return to their families at home.
“I have several times sneaked in here (KATH) to observe things for myself and I was touched to do what I am doing today to bring relief to these patients,” he said with a smile.
According to him, it was a blessing to support the needy in society, stressing that he was highly elated to have gotten the opportunity to support the patients.
Kofi Job also lauded KATH management for introducing the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project to save the old Gee blocks at the top medical facility from getting totally destroyed.
He, therefore, promised that at the appropriate time he would visit the hospital again and also donate handsomely towards the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project to help transform KATH.
“I also have in mind to donate something big towards the ‘Heal Komfo Anokye’ project,” Kofi Job assured, and urged the KATH management and staff to continue their good work.
The KATH CEO, Prof. Otchere Addai-Mensah, said Kofi Job told the hospital to provide names of patients who were unable to pay their bills and cost of treatment so he could help.
“I am grateful for the kind gesture from Kofi Job as well as many others who have, and continue, to show amazing kindness to the needy and the sick”, he remarked.
