Rising star Hendrikse joins Roc Nation… Could Sharks move be next?

According to a statement, the signing of Hendrikse is part of the agency’s growing strategy in South Africa to sign sportsmen and women at the early stages of their careers, in addition to high-profile athletes.

The talented and exciting young player made his mark on the rugby scene when he debuted for the Lions at the age of 19 in 2021 and recently came back from a major injury to bolster the Lions’ United Rugby Championship (URC) campaign. His stellar debut season was rewarded with nominations for the 2021 Junior Springbok Player of the Year and SA Young Player of the Year awards.

It can’t go unnoticed that Roc Nation are intrinsically affiliated to the Sharks, where the likes of other clients such as Siya Kolisi, Bongi Mbonambi, S’bu Nkosi and Aphelele Fassi ply their trade.

It would be interesting to see whether the Roc Nation connection could tempt Hendrikse to make the move to Durban at some point, with the Sharks believed to be on the lookout for another high-class flyhalf to add to their depth.

Roc Nation Sports International will represent Hendrikse’s career both on and off the field providing guidance and support as his career continues to grow and gain momentum.

Hendrikse recently returned from injury

“My freak injury last year gave me a lot of time to reflect on my career and the aspirations I have for it,” the 20-year-old Hendrikse said. “While my dream is to play for the Springboks, I want to make sure I have the right support and resources to make it a reality. I’ve just come back from a tough injury and lengthy rehabilitation, so it’s very exciting for me to be joining Roc Nation at this important time of my career.”

Roc Nation Sports International President, Michael Yormark, says the signing of Hendrikse signals the start of an important phase for the agency’s growth and impact on the continent.

“Our commitment in South Africa isn’t only focused on high-profile sportsmen and women,” he explained. “We want to be able to make an impact on the careers of talented young athletes who are in the early stages of their careers. Jordan is a highly-motivated and mature young sportsman who not only promises to have a successful career on the field but can make an incredible impact off the field too.”
