Revenge dress? Rachel Kolisi compared to Princess Diana [video]

Rachel Kolisi – the soon-to-be ex-wife of Springbok captain Siya Kolisi – has been compared to Prince William’s mother, Princess Diana, after she rocked the red carpet in a “revenge dress”.

Rachel was a VIP guest at the 2024 Earthshot Awards ceremony, which was held on Wednesday, 6 November, at the Kirstenbosch National Botanical Gardens in Cape Town.

Like Diana, Rachel is going through a public divorce and has made her first appearance since the news of the marriage split.

RACHEL KOLISI ROCKS ‘REVENGE DRESS’?

In clips posted online, a glamorous Rachel Kolisi is seen walking the red carpet at the 2024 Earthshot Awards.

The mom of two wore an off-shoulder black evening dress. She paired it with sparkly earrings and a bracelet. Like Siya, Rachel did not wear her wedding ring on her finger.

Rachel’s dress was courtesy of the sustainable fashion brand Style Rotate, which rents out red-carpet dresses to the public. According to the Springbok WAG, she is a big fan of the eco-friendly brand.

Eagled-eyed fans were quick to spot the similarity between Rachel Kolisi’s dress and the late Princess Diana, whose “revenge dress” made headlines more than 30 years ago.

Similarly, Princess Diana – who at the time was going through a high-profile split – wore a little black dress (LBD) on her first red carpet since news of her divorce.

The gown featured an off-the-shoulder, figure-hugging silhouette.

SIGNIFICANCE OF PRINCESS DIANA’S LBD

More than 30 years ago  – on 29 June 1994 – Princess Diana wore a LBD to a formal dinner at the Serpentine Gallery in Kensington Gardens. 

Interestingly, Diana wore the daring dress just hours after her then-husband, Prince Charles, confessed on an ITV documentary that he had been unfaithful to her.

According to sources, the dress was seen as “revenge” over Charles’s affair, which she had known about.

Designer Christina Stambolia compared the off-shoulder mini dress to the black swan Odile in Tchaikovsky’s ballet Swan Lake, claiming that Diana “chose not to play the scene like Odette, innocent in white.

“She played it like Odile. She was clearly angry.”

Diana had reportedly owned the dress for several years, but as concerned it was too “daring” for a royal. According to royal protocal, women should not bare their shoulders in public.

Diana and Charles would officially divorce in 1996, and sadly, the Princess would die in a fatal car crash in 1997.

Prince William has since continued the charity work of his mother.
