Return to status quo ante…Supreme Court commands Legislature admid power struggle
The Honorable Supreme Court of the Republic of Liberia has issued a writ commanding the Minister of Justice and several members of the House of Representatives of the 55th Legislature to appear before the Full Bench of the Court on Tuesday, November 26, 2024.
The order seeks to address the constitutionality of certain actions taken by the lawmakers, the details of which remain a matter of public interest.
Signed by Cllr. San Ma, Clerk of the Supreme Court, the writ mandates Brigadier General Amos B. Kesseh Dickson, Sr., Marshal of the Supreme Court, to serve the notice to the relevant parties.
The notice directs the Minister of Justice/Attorney General and the referenced legislators to file their official returns in the Clerk’s Office on or before the court appearance date.
In a significant provision, the writ commands the legislators to “return to status quo ante” and to “stay all further proceedings or actions pending the determination of the matter.”
The Full Bench, presided over by Chief Justice Her Honor Sie-A-Nyene G. Yuoh, alongside Associate Justices Jamesetta H. Wolokolie, Yussif D. Kaba, Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., and Ceaneh D. Clinton-Johnson, is set to hear arguments on the matter at the Temple of Justice at 9:00 a.m.
