Raila: My bond with Uhuru will not die with elections

ODM leader Raila Odinga has revealed that the yet to be unveiled Azimio Coalition will have structures both at the national and county levels.

Addressing the party’s National Governing Council where he was endorsed as the ODM presidential candidate, Raila said the movement which will officially be launched in two weeks’ time will have structures that guarantee inclusivity by all players.

He said since ODM and Jubilee are the founders of the movement, the leadership of the two parties will have a joint meeting that will lay the ground for the coalition.

The teams will be expected to come up with resolutions that will be subjected to further discussions in planned subsequent meetings before paving the way for the formalisation.

The ODM leader said the wider strategy was to ensure a resounding win for the Coalition with majority seats.

The Council adopted a resolution to formally allow ODM to join the Azimio La Umoja Coalition Party with the former Prime Minister as its presidential flagbearer.

Raila however clarified that he was the ODM presidential nominee and urged parties wanting to join the movement to pick their candidates who will then agree on who will fly the Azimio ticket.

He thanked the delegates for endorsing his bid and vowed to deliver on his promises if elected and ensure projects started by President Kenyatta are completed.

He told off critics of the handshake saying his party had chosen to engage in constructive checkmating of government adding that their friendship will outlive the election.

“Some people said that Uhuru Kenyatta will abandon me; I told them I know that he will not. This bond will not die with elections but it will only get stronger as we work together moving forward”

The joint National Delegates Conference of all parties under Azimio is set to be held in the second week of March.
