Raila, Karua tour Marsabit promising economic turnaround of Northern Kenya

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Presidential flag bearer and his running mate made a political excursion to Northern Kenya Thursday, drumming up support for their bid in Marsabit County.

The team’s captain Raila Odinga and his deputy Martha Karua told residents of the county they will seek to turn around the region’s fortunes economically especially by ensuring that the pastoral communities benefit from their livestock keeping.

He said he has a plan that will ensure that resources available to the residents benefit them and improve their livelihoods.

We will avail livestock insurance so that if your herds die as a result of drought, you will still get money,”

We will also build slaughter houses all across, where you will slaughter your cows and goats and the meet products from here are exported abroad for your benefit,” Raila told the residents.

While promoting his ‘one county one product’ model of economic empowerment, Raila said he will oversee construction of a tannery and leather factory in Marsabit where processing of hides and skins into leather products will be made, while ensuring that majority of young people from the region secure employment.

You can trust us to protect and promote the rights of all Kenyans, particularly their economic rights.” said Karua even as she called for political sobriety as the country heads to the polls.

Odinga promised residents that he would slay the ghost of corruption and make revenue work for the benefit of all.

Odinga said once he ascends to power his administration will address the issue of insecurity in the region and work towards ensuring peaceful coexistence of communities living in the area.
