Raila, Karua scold rival Ruto over his criticism of Jubilee Govt

Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition flag bearer Raila Odinga and his running mate Martha Karua held their first joint Television Interview Tuesday night.

During the live telecast, Raila rebuffed claims by his main challenger in the August Presidential race, William Ruto of the United Democratic Alliance, that he was largely to blame for the ‘crisis’ in the Jubilee administration.

From the alleged collapse of the big four agenda, fuel crisis, and the rising cost of basic commodities, among others, the Deputy President has repeatedly claimed that Raila was culpable.

But the former Prime Minister says Ruto is dishonest in his claims. The assertions by Ruto according to Raila are deceptive.

“Kenyans know very well that I am not in government, I don’t earn a salary in government, I don’t live in government house, and I don’t get any allowance from Govt. But I can give advice and advice as you know is just what it is.” He said in the joint TV interview televised by KBC CHANNEL 1 alongside CITIZEN TV, NTV, KTN, K24, TV47, KAMEME TV, RAMOGI TV, and INOORO TV.

“Somebody who is earning a salary has got over 250 security officers from govt defending him, is using govt vehicles and equipment to do campaigns, and comes out to say he is not in govt and say ask mtu wa kitendawili ndio anajua.” He charged in his criticism of Ruto for finding fault in President Uhuru Kenyatta’s administration, yet he has been serving in the same government as the Head of State’s principal assistant since 2013.

Raila’s running mate also expressed displeasure over Ruto’s constant criticism of government while at the same time appearing to take credit for the Jubilee administration’s greatest achievements since it came to power 10 years ago.

“You can’t choose which part of government you will claim credit for and which part you disown. If somebody is standing in the podium and telling people that I have influenced this to happen in government, they must also take the blame for any shortcomings of the government. That’s the way it is.” Charged Karua.

The Azimio duo told off Ruto for choosing to remain in government even though it was clear that he was no longer reading from the same script as President Uhuru Kenyatta.

“Kama ulitolewa kwa serikali, you do the decent thing that most responsible people do, You resign. That is what Bildad Kagia did and that is what Jaramogi Oginga Odinga did.”

“You don’t say you are out of government and you are blaming the same government but you are earning a salary from the same government, if that is not hypocrisy, then I don’t know what hypocrisy is,” Raila maintained

They said Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza team were insincere and were playing populist politics with the current state of the nation. This, they said, was a scheme only aimed at turning Kenyans against the President and hoodwinking the electorate into backing them in the August poll.

“Having been in Govt, I know the challenges a govt faces, like this crisis we are in right now, is a serious crisis. The cost of crude oil has gone up. When the cost of oil goes up virtually every else goes up, we know that for a fact because everything else depends on oil for manufacturing.” said the ODM leader
