Queen Elizabeth: Tweeps react to ‘fake news’ of royal’s death

If you spotted Queen Elizabeth trending on social media, you’d be inclined to think the royal had died. This, after palace officials revealed she had contracted Covid-19 earlier this week…

To add fuel to the fire entertainment site Hollywood Unlocked reported that the 95-year-old was found dead on Tuesday. They claimed that a little birdie – ie “sources close to the royal kingdom” – had notified them of the matriarch’s death.

Naturally, Twitter was abuzz with reactions to news, ranging from disbelief to mourning. Others, however, claimed that the rumours were “fake news” as authorities had yet to confirm or deny the report.

Queen Elizabeth is not dead.

The @BBC will report it first, after her Private Secretary has advised the British Prime Minister.

There’s a very elaborate and well laid plan to announce her death.

QUEEN ELIZABETH DEATH RUMOURS

Queen Elizabeth has been the victim of countless death hoaxes, and this time is not different.

The unverified rumour was kicked off after gossip bloggers Hollywood Unlocked announced her death on Tuesday, 22 February.

The publication wrote: “Socialites, it is with our deepest regret to inform you that Britain’s Queen Elizabeth has died.

“Sources close to the Royal Kingdom notified us exclusively that Queen Elizabeth has passed away. She was scheduled to attend the wedding of British Vogue editor Edward Enninful, but was found dead.”

The site’s founder Jason Lee also backed up the claims, stating: “We don’t post lies and I always stand by my sources. Waiting for an official statement from the palace”.

Whilst there has been no word from Buckingham Palace themselves, Dayo Okewale, a chief of staff in the House of Lords, said the report about the queen’s death was “false.”

Hollywood unlocked posting the Queen is dead???? There is no credible source that verifies this. #False

Pretty bold that Hollywood Unlocked hasn’t retracted their announcement about #QueenElizabeth. If the Queen is alive and well, Jason Lee will be facing the wrath of the monarch in court. #LongLiveTheQueen https://t.co/VD2jyiERE4
