PSL transfer news: Khanyisa Mayo, Percy Tau, Velebayi, Appollis
There’s plenty of spice leading up to PSL’s January transfer window.
And Kaizer Chiefs, who are linked with numerous attackers, seem to be doing most of the seasoning, suggesting it will be a busy time for the Glamour Boys.

- Former PSL player now CR Belouizdad forward, Khanyisa Mayo, has expressed his desire to join Kaizer Chiefs when, or in his words, ‘if’, he returns to the Betway Premiership. Mayo’s dad, Patrick, won multiple trophies with the Glamour Boys.
- Percy Tau’s future at Al Ahly remains ambiguous, with Orlando Pirates and Chiefs monitoring the Bafana playmaker’s situation.
- Asenele Velebayi is one of Kaizer Chiefs top targets. The Soweto Giants had multiple bids rejected over the winter but will likely increase their offer in January.
- Oswin Appollis is another PSL star Chiefs approached over the winter, but, to the player’s annoyance, a deal never got over the line. This January could be different as Nasreddine Nabi looks to bolster their attacking options.
The deal that never happened
Similarly to Appollis, Velebayi was on the verge of signing for the four-time PSL winners, but Cape Town City deemed the offers too low – both players had agreed to move.
“There was a lot of back and forth,” Velebayi’s agent, Lance Davids explained.
“Kaizer Chiefs put in an offer, and the value was too low for Cape Town Spurs,
“Chiefs came back with a second offer and gave, in my opinion, a valuation that was very fair with add-ons, and they also didn’t accept that. They thought the valuation was low, and then they stopped just there.
“In my opinion, I thought the valuation that Cape Town Spurs was looking at for Velebayi, compared to Oswin Appollis, it’s a no-brainer – you can’t compare [the two players’ value]. At this point, what did Oswin achieved in the last year?
“So I think the valuation of Velebayi was crazy; I think Chiefs, to be honest, was very fair on their proposal and, in my opinion, they could have still add some more add-ons.
“Of course, they did not because they thought they were also fair on their proposal, and the deal fell through… I’ll be honest, at first Cape Town Spurs wanted R12 million, they came down to R10 million, and Chiefs’ offer was R5 million plus players.”
