Prince Harry and Meghan Markle made it onto Time magazine’s ‘100 most influential people’ list for 2021.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex – who stepped down as senior members of the royal family in 2020 – also got a spot on the cover of Time magazine, wearing an all-black and a white pantsuit respectively.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex topped the “Icons” section of the list, which also includes pop star Britney Spears, country superstar Dolly Parton, tennis pro Naomi Osaka and Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny.
“They turn compassion into boots on the ground through their Archewell Foundation. They give voice to the voiceless through media production,” chef José Andrés wrote in a short essay about the pair. “Hand in hand with nonprofit partners, they take risks to help communities in need — offering mental-health support to black women and girls in the US and feeding those affected by natural disasters in India and the Caribbean.”
Running towards the struggle
Andrés, who partnered with the couple last December to build community centers with World Central Kitchen, concluded, “In a world where everyone has an opinion about people they don’t know, the Duke and Duchess have compassion for the people they don’t know. They don’t just opine. They run toward the struggle.”
The internet reacts
So far, internet users are in a bind over the couple’s magazine cover.
“They come to the US and Canada to supposedly be out of the limelight but always turn up on TV and magazines to open their mouths. That’s getting out of the press huh?” said Zaro on Twitter.
“Compassion for ppl they don’t know but not fit the family members that they do know. Interesting,” said Shelle Belle, which seemingly refers to the couple’s strained relationship with the royal family.
Others are in agreement that the couple is deserving of this accolade.
“Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan are well-deserving of this accolade. They have inspired me to give to a number of charities, and they have shined a light on the work of so many who work for education, combat hunger, uplift children, speak for mental health, etc,” said Netgirl.
