POLL: Should Chris Brown be allowed to perform in SA?

Whilst Chris Brown is expected to perform in two sold-out performances in South Africa later this year, pressure is mounting for the US rapper to be denied entry into the country based on his criminal history.

The star will be performing on 14 and 15 December at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg.

Anti-gender-based violence activists are calling on authorities to cancel the shows, particularly as it comes just days after the “16 Days Activism” campaign. One group – Women For Change, has also started a petition addressed to the Department of Home Affairs and Minister Leon Schreiber, calling for urgent action.

CHRIS BROWN HAS BEEN BANNED FROM THESE COUNTRIES

Chris Brown has a long history of GBV charges against women, with the most prominent one being his 2009 assault of then-girlfriend Rihanna.

Based on his “wrap sheet,” he has been denied entry to countries such as the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.

In 2010, the U.K.’s home office said of Chris Brown: “We reserve the right to refuse entry to the UK to anyone guilty of a serious criminal offense. Public safety is one of our primary concerns. Each application to enter the UK is considered on its individual merits.”
