Police warns media against reporting unverified information from press conferences
The Ghana Police Service has urged the media to avoid amplifying unverified comments from press conferences organised by various groupings.
According to the Service, reporting on such conferences without checking the facts could foment tensions ahead of the December 7 polls.
Speaking at the Media Security Dialogue on Violence, organized by the KC media relations firm in collaboration with the Ghana Police Service, the PRO of the Ghana Police Hospital, DSP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah, called on the pressure groups to avoid any attempt to hinder the work of the security task force.
“You may organise something, the media comes and covers and you make the people be on tenterhooks,” he said.
“We are using the media to also draw the attention of pressure groups that whenever they are organising their press conference, they should verify and ensure that the security agencies, led by the Ghana Police Service, are not doing what the Constitution empowers us to do.”
DSP Yaw Nketia-Yeboah also urged pressure groups and other stakeholders to liaise with the National Election Security Taskforce.
“It is important that all stakeholders share notes by contacting the National Election Security taskforce or its affiliates or subsets or the Ghana police to avoid the situation where pressure groups hastily organise press conferences without knowing much about the preparedness levels of these national security agencies.”
