The Police Ministry and National Police Commissioner General Masemola will be visiting the West Rand area this weekend.
This is part of the police’s efforts to address illegal mining and crimes resulted by the illegal operations.
POLICE MINISTRY TO MEET RESIDENTS IN KRUGERSDORP AND KAGISO
The Ministerial Crime Combating Imbizo will take place in West Village, Krugersdorp on Saturday. This is the same area where eight young women were gang raped last week, said Police Ministry spokesperson Lirandzu Themba.

The alleged perpetrators behind the gang rape are believed to be illegal miners who live and conduct illicit mining operations in the area, she said.
Since the gang rape, police have arrested 130 illegal miners during an operation this week. 80 illegal miners have appeared in court and some are yet to be linked to the sexual attacks pending DNA results, Themba said.
“The gang rape that has shocked the country has cast a spotlight on illicit mining as a crime generator in mining areas such as Kagiso, also in the West Rand.”
KAGISO COMMUNITY ANGERED THIS WEEK
Protests flared up in the Kagiso area this week as residents were angered by the gang rape in Krugersdorp. One person was killed during the violent protests as residents raided mine shafts in search of illegal miners accused of the crime.
But the Kagiso community will also have the ear of the Police Ministry and SAPS management. This will be during the second installation of the Crime Combatting Imbizo which will take place on Sunday.
