The Delta State Police Command has confirmed the murder of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Agbarho by suspected kidnappers.

Speaking with Vanguard, the Command’s spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, revealed that the tragic incident occurred in the early hours of Monday in Agbarho, refuting earlier speculations that it took place in Orerokpe.

He explained that the DPO, who was leading a security operation to combat criminal activity in the area, was shot dead by suspected kidnappers. He requested that the officer’s name be withheld out of respect for the deceased.

“It is true that our DPO in Agbarho was shot dead by suspected kidnappers during a security operation. We ask that his name be kept out of the media for now,” Edafe said.

He further added that the DPO of Orerokpe, who was also involved in the operation, sustained injuries but is currently in stable condition at an undisclosed hospital.

Meanwhile, community sources disclosed that Agbarho vigilante members have launched a search in nearby bushes where the incident occurred, hoping to find clues that could lead to the arrest of the culprits.

“Vigilante members have been in the bush since morning, searching for any clues that could aid the investigation and subsequent security operations,” said a source, who asked to remain anonymous.
