Police arrest 22 suspects, recover ₦10m worth of stolen items in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has successfully arrested 22 individuals suspected of theft and vandalism, recovering various exhibits and stolen items.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer (PPRO), ASP Abubakar Sadiq, one of the incidents occurred on August 24, 2024, at approximately 5:15 PM. Three suspects, Hamza Lawal, Safiyanu Usman, and Mariya Adamu, were arrested in connection with a criminal house trespass and theft incident in GRA Katsina.

The suspects were accused of stealing items worth over ₦10 million from a residence in Modoji Quarters. The stolen items included a freezer, three plasma TVs, one HP computer, a set of dining tables, a set of chairs, two drawers, two mattresses, two sets of home theaters, four sets of complete inverters, three sets of air conditioners, and one max generator.

According to ASP Sadiq, the suspects were arrested following a report of their nefarious activities at the GRA Katsina divisional police headquarters. He stated that the suspects confessed to the crime and mentioned additional accomplices.

“Efforts are being intensified to apprehend the remaining suspects as the investigation continues,” ASP Sadiq disclosed.

In a separate operation on September 4, at around 1 PM, the Command successfully arrested a twelve-man gang known for vandalizing armored electric cables in the Katsina metropolis. The suspects were arrested in Sha’iskawa Quarters with bundles of suspected vandalized electric cables, iron rods, and other tools.

The suspects, all residents of Sha’iskawa Quarters, confessed to the crime and identified seven other accomplices who are currently at large. They also implicated one Aminu Manya-Manya as the receiver of their stolen properties.

Similarly, on September 5, at approximately 2 AM, police operatives attached to the Sabon Garin Katsina Divisional Police Headquarters arrested six individuals suspected of vandalizing the Kofar Marusa drainage. Fifty-one full-length 10mm and 16mm iron rods were recovered from the suspects, who confessed to the crime.

The Command has vowed to continue its efforts to arrest all suspects involved in these crimes and bring them to justice.
