Police are ready to ensure violence-free polls – IGP

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Dr George Akufo Dampare, has assured the public that the Ghana Police Service is fully prepared to ensure a violence-free General Election on December 7.

The IGP who visited some churches in the Greater Accra Region yesterday, said that the police were committed to maintaining law and order throughout the electoral process.

Dr Dampare stated that “the Ghana Police Service understands the critical importance of peaceful elections and the potential dangers of disruptions,” and has taken comprehensive measures to prevent any form of violence.

He called on the public to support the police, adding that achieving a peaceful election will require collective action.

The IGP visited the Methodist Church of Resurrection in Kpeehe, Assemblies of God Ring Road Gospel Centre in Osu, Presbyterian Church of Ghana, Ebenezer Congregation, the Church of Pentecost Wyatt Assembly in Accra New Town, the Holy Spirit Cathedral and the Ghana Police Church at 37 Accra among others.

Dr Dampare reminded the congregants that while prayer was essential, it must be accompanied by action.

“Prayer requires action. As soon as God sees us prepared to promote peace, he starts making it easy for us to accomplish our aim,” he said.

Dr Dampare urged citizens to pray for peace and act in ways that would support it, to ensure that they do not become a source of disturbance.

The IGP urged Christians to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities that could jeopardise the country’s peace.

He also appealed to them to educate members of their communities about the importance of maintaining peace and avoiding actions that could be exploited by individuals with ulterior motives.

Dr Dampare stated that securing peace required the collective effort of all citizens, particularly in safeguarding against any disruptions that could arise during the election period.

“We must position ourselves as vessels of ensuring peace and unity, not sources of anything that will disturb the peace of Ghana,” he added.

The IGP called on the public to support the security agencies and remain united, to safeguard the country’s peace.

He gave the assurance that the police and other security agencies were ready to protect the country’s peace.
