PHFAT exclusive: Rapper talks live lockdown gigs and SA’s first pod party

PHFAT will perform at South Africa’s first socially distanced pod festival, A New Day Out, at the end of November.

The event is set to take place at Montecasino’s outdoor event area, in Johannesburg, with live music performances from a host of top South African artists, including Prime Circle, GoodLuck and Majozi, on 28 and 29 November.

Music fans will be given the opportunity to enjoy A New Day Out from the comfort of their very own socially distanced pod, which will also consist of seats for four friends and/or family. Event-goers will be able to order food and beverages, which will be delivered directly to their pod.

The South African caught up with PHFAT to get the talented rapper’s take on playing live gigs during lockdown and his upcoming performance at A New Day Out.

LIVE GIGS DURING LOCKDOWN

From no gigs taking place when the nationwide hard lockdown was enforced at the end of March to gigs resuming on the 21 September, there’s been a lot of uncertainty in the music industry following COVID-19 transmission scares.

At the live shows he his done so far, PHFAT has taken all the right precautions.

“I don’t want to be involved with putting anyone’s grandparents at risk,” he said.

With the pandemic impacting the number of live gigs many artists can play, PHFAT named financial sustainability as a looming concern.

“I would like to be able to work and feed myself. Live performance is a huge part of my ability to do that. I suspect the solution lies in performing at events that adhere to all the safety precautions,” said PHFAT.
