Chippa United loan striker Phakamani Mahlambi continues to undergo rehabilitation for an Achilles tendon injury, according to his agent.
Mahlambi has a chequered past when it comes to various off-field issues, however, his agent Glyn Binkin insists there is nothing untoward about his client’s absence.
Phakamani Mahlambi may not return for Chippa United
The 24-year-old is on loan at Chippa United and is set to return to parent club Mamelodi Sundowns at the end of the season, but he might do so without adding to the three appearances he has made for the Chilli Boys.
Mahlambi’s agent expressed his clients disappointment that the loan move to the Eastern Cape hadn’t yielded the results they had hoped for at the outset.
“Yes, he still injured and undergoing rehab,” Binkin told KickOff.
“I don’t know how long it will take to heal, it’s a work in progress at the moment and he’s currently in rehabilitation.
“It’s his Achilles tendon, but I hope he will be back before the season ends, but one never really knows you know.
“It depends how he responds to his rehab and treatment, but hopefully he will be back sooner rather than later.
“He’s obviously disappointed, but he’s just working out trying to get back to full fitness, he’s currently in Port Elizabeth.”
A career frustrated
The former Bidvest Wits Junior has hopped from club to club, seeing a move to Egypt’s Al Ahly fall apart before he returned to South Africa , signing with Sundowns.
His time with the Brazilians hasn’t been terribly productive as he failed to break into the first team and would be loaned out twice.
At his age, there is still plenty of time for him to reach his fullest potential as a footballer, which most agree has yet to really be seen.
