Percy Tau is coming to South Africa this week but will he impress?
Bafana Bafana star Percy Tau is set to travel with the Al Ahly squad that will play Orlando Pirates this weekend.
The Red Devils will play their second CAF Champions League group match against the Buccaneers at the Orlando Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The 30-year-old attacker played 71 minutes during his team’s 0-0 draw with National Bank on Sunday.
The former Mamelodi Sundowns forward is entering his final six months with Al Ahly and is expected to leave the Egyptian giants according to reports. In recent weeks, he was linked with a move to Zamalek but the club’s board member Ahmed Suleiman denied any interest from Zamalek in signing Tau.
“There has never been an offer from Zamalek for Percy Tau,” he said as per Soccer Laduma.
“Currently, no one at the club is thinking about signing players from Al Ahly, just as Al Ahly is not considering signing players from us.”
He added, “No player joins Zamalek without José Gomes being fully convinced. As a board, we cannot impose a player on the coach.”
Percy Tau to reunite with Bafana teammates in Orlando
Tau has endured a difficult two seasons with the Red Devils only making 10 league appearances in the 2023/24 campaign. This season, he has played 10 times, netting two goals. All of the two goals came in the CAF Champions League which might not be good news for Orlando Pirates.
At Sundowns, Percy Tau was a thorn for the Buccaneers and he might cause havoc again on Saturday. Although he has been out of form, the Lion of Judah might wake up and rediscover his groove again. His future remains uncertain but good performance in the Champions League might see him renew his contract.
Can Tau show his class against Pirates?
