Parents assured of children safety as schools re-open

Over 8,000 schools in Rift Valley region are ready to receive learners back by today amidst reluctance expressed by a section of parents and guardians.

Rift Valley regional Director of Education Jared Obiero has however assured parents that all is well and that principals, head-teachers and the teaching staff were already in schools to continue with the second term work.

Obiero expressed confidence that his staff in both public and private schools is up to the task to ensure completion of the syllabus ahead of the end year’s national examinations and called for cooperation from parents and other education stakeholders.

Briefing the press in his office, the Director clarified that the IEBC staff had already cleared all the electoral materials stored in learning institutions that were used as polling centers during the just concluded general elections.

He however noted that 15 secondary schools in the region will be re-opening on Sunday the 21st of August after the schools’ administration requested for more time and that the parents and guardians had already been informed.

At the same time the Director reported that none of the learning institutions that were used as polling centers was destroyed during the voting exercise, and encouraged parents to take back their children on time to allow learning to resume in earnest.

A spot-check this morning established that most schools in Nakuru City and its environs had already opened up its doors with learning having kicked off in most day schools.

Matatu terminus within the city were already crowded by early morning as learners accompanied by their parents and guardians boarded the vehicles ready to beat the 18th August reopening date.
