Orlando Pirates talent massively undervalued?
Orlando Pirates have several valuable players on their books, not least of which superstar talents of Relebohile Mofokeng and Patrick Maswanganyi.
Sisibi and Maswanganyi top the pops for Orlando Pirates
As things stand, Nkosinathi Sibisi and Patrick Maswanganyi are regarded as the two most valuable stars at Pirates. The pair are each valued at €1.4 million, or approximately R27 million. Golden Boot holder Tshegofatso Mabasa follows closely at €1.3 million or approximately R25 million. The trio of Tapelo Xoki, Deano van Rooyen and Monnapule Saleng are all valued at €1.2 million or R23 million. Big money signing Gilberto, who arrived for R11 million, is now valued at a lowly R3.8 million but there’s hope this number will grow as he grows accustomed to South African football.
Is Mofokeng’s value inaccurate?
German football website transfermarkt reckons Relebohile Mofokeng’s value currently hovers around the €800k (R15.3 million) mark. Surely that number will continue to rise as his stock does the same. Now a Bafana international, Mofokeng has surpassed the 50 appearances mark for the Buccaneers and he only turned 20 on October 23rd. The sky is the limit for one of South Africa’s most exciting talents of this generation.
Player profile
Now a regular for Bafana Bafana, Relebohile Mofokeng already looks so comfortable at the elite level of South African football. His languid, fluid style lends itself well to the frenetic pace of the Betway Premiership. He can slow things down and then accelerate again as he pleases. Mofokeng is an inverted, right-footed winger operating on the left-hand-side for Pirates. He’s adept at going inside or outside his marker, making him the perfect modern winger and a complete nightmare for opposition defenders and managers.
Versatile Chiefs DDC product wanted by Orlando Pirates
According to SoccerLaduma, Thato Khiba is a wanted man. The 28-year-old TS Galaxy defender is a versatile operator and Orlando Pirates have registered an interest and are willing to loan players out in order to facilitate a deal in January. Carling Knockout holders Stellenbosch are also keen on the player.
“For now, there are other clubs that have joined the race for his services. First, it was the Pirates who showed interest first, and then the Chiefs, followed by Stellenbosch FC, have also inquired about him,” a source told SoccerLaduma.
Is Mofokeng the best South African player of his generation? If not, who is?
