Supersport United midfielder Sipho Mbule has been the subject of increased transfer speculation for the better part of the last three transfer windows now.

Mbule has reportedly attracted the interests of DStv Premiership giants Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns in recent times but Supersport have revealed that’s not all!

Mbule speculation dominated the off season

The previous transfer window was dominated by transfer speculation linking Mbule with a big money move away from Supersport. The lead in terms of securing his signature kept exchanging hands between Chiefs and Sundowns, with almost every new report. Supersport had also made very little secret of their wish to sell the player abroad, instead of any of their two local rivals.

In the end, all of those reports proved to be futile as Mbule stayed put at Supersport United, as he said he would in one of his Instagram stories during that time. It now appears, however, that the for his signature was more than just a two-horse race between Chiefs and Sundowns. Club spokesperson David Sikhosana has shed more light on the other clubs that were also interested in the South African junior international’s signature, including Chiefs arch-rivals Orlando Pirates!

Sikhosana confirms Pirates interest

“Sipho Mbule is still here despite people linking him to Kaizer Chiefs for over a year now, Remember with Mbule it was not only Chiefs, but several other teams showing interest such as Sundowns, Pirates with others such as AmaZulu and Cape Town City.” Sikhosana confirmed to kickoff.com

Sikhosana’s account appears to be the first link between Mbule and Pirates, as the Buccaneers’ name was mostly linked to the services of another midfielder, in Thabo Nodada. The 26-year-old Cape Town City player had previously been the subject of intense speculation from Chiefs but such links have since died down in the previous two windows.

Possible battle between the Chiefs, Sundowns and the Buccaneers?

There has been less talk of Mbule joining either Chiefs or Sundowns in the current window, and still no media links suggesting the interest of Pirates either. Should the 23-year-old end the season at Supersport United, it is now becoming almost certain that he will not start the next one in their colours. Can the football fraternity then expect a three-way battle between Amakhosi, Ka Bo Yellow as well as the Buccaneers for his services?
