Orlando Pirates showboating king set for possible return to Portugal
Orlando Pirates showboating king set for possible return to Portugal, according to Soccer Laduma.
Pirates star Patrick “Tito” Maswanganyi has drawn attention from UD Oliveirense, a second-division club in Portugal, which is eager to bring the talented midfielder back to Europe. Sources confirm that Oliveirense is working to convince Maswanganyi to return after his successful stint in South Africa.
A well-placed source revealed that UD Oliveirense originally expected Maswanganyi to return to Portugal after his time at SuperSport United. However, circumstances led him to join Orlando Pirates instead. “Actually, he was supposed to go back to Portugal after his stay at SuperSport United, but instead, he was signed by Orlando Pirates. Now, Oliveirense are once again interested in him,” the source explained. The club had allowed him time to develop, but now, after his impressive progress, they are keen to bring him back.
Success at Pirates and Bafana catches attention
Maswanganyi’s performances at Orlando Pirates have propelled him to the forefront of South African football. Over the past two seasons, he has been a standout player, especially in recent Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, where he scored two goals in matches against Uganda and South Sudan. His stellar form has drawn the attention of European clubs, with Oliveirense being the latest to inquire about his services.
While Oliveirense’s interest is clear, other European clubs could also come calling. “Oliveirense are in Liga 2, which is the second division in Portugal. That would be a good move, but only if there is no possibility of another move to other leagues where he can play in the first division like the PSL here at home,” another source shared. Although Oliveirense is the primary club showing interest, discussions with other teams in stronger European leagues could be on the horizon.
Maswanganyi’s impressive rise at Pirates
Maswanganyi’s time at Pirates has been nothing short of a success. In his first season, he won the Players’ Player of the Season, Midfielder of the Season, and Nedbank Cup Player of the Tournament. This season, he has continued to impress, playing a vital role in the South African national team under coach Hugo Broos, filling in for the injured Themba Zwane. His rapid rise in form suggests that his value will continue to increase, making him an even more attractive prospect for European clubs.
As the transfer window approaches, Maswanganyi’s future is in the spotlight. Will he return to Portugal with Oliveirense, or will a move to a top European league materialise? With his current form and increasing reputation, Maswanganyi is sure to be in high demand.
