Orlando Pirates set to chase history tomorrow

Orlando Pirates can make history tomorrow.

Their fans are loving life; not only are they top of the league, three points ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, but their noisy neighbours and bitter rivals, Kaizer Chiefs, are having a torrid time, currently sitting eighth on the log with two wins in five games.

In contrast, the Buccaneers have enjoyed a perfect start to the campaign, winning all six matches, a feat they hadn’t achieved since their victorious 2002/03 season.

Beating Richard’s Bay tomorrow will take them one step further, winning seven in a row, which would be their best start to a season.

Jose Riveiro’s lightning start

The last few months have been brilliant for Jose Riveiro, who, apart from suffering a shock elimination in the Telkom Cup, can’t seem to lose, conceding only two goals – the best record in the league – in his six PSL encounters while scoring an impressive twelve goals.

The Spanish tactician provided some insight on how he feels his club is doing, saying, “I think the team is getting mature, we show and the players show, this season they are really enjoying playing and that makes everything much easier.”

“So far they are really focused in each and every game, you never hear them talking about Champions League the next month, or the big games we’re going to play. It’s always about the next opponent when you hear the players in the locker room and [training].

“They are always talking about what’s coming or what we did the day before. It makes you feel that they are getting more mature as a group and they know what it takes to achieve what we want to achieve in the end, which is always the next… that makes me feel confident and very optimistic about this group.”
