Orlando Pirates rumours: Luthuli, Lepasa, Riveiro
Today’s Orlando Pirates news wrap looks at whispers and stories around Siphelele Luthuli, Zakhele Lepasa and manager Jose Riveiro.
Luthuli impresses on trial
Pirates took former Chippa star Siphelele Luthuli on trial after he was clubless at the start of the season. According to KickOff.com, The Sea Robbers are impressed enough to sign him on a permanent deal. The 29-year-old is versatile in midfield, capable of playing at the base of a diamond if necessary but his preference is to play closer to a striker.
“Luthuli is still training with Pirates. He is a good player. He has done well so far. It looks like the club is preparing to sign him in January,” said a source close to the club, to the same publication.
Lepasa to Chiefs?
Former Bafana and Chiefs stopper Brian Baloyi says Amakhosi should be looking closely at the possibility of signing Zakhele Lepasa from Orlando Pirates.
“There’s a certain player at Orlando Pirates who is not playing,” Baloyi told Metro FM as quoted by IDiski Times in reference to Zakhele Lepasa.
Riveiro’s got a new deal lined up
According to Soccer-Laduma, talks to keep 49-year-old Jose Riveiro at the club will start soon. The Vigo-born boss has already won five pieces of silverware with the Sea Robbers. In 2024-2025, he’s taken them back to the top table in the Caf Champions League and is mounting a credible Betway Premiership title charge.
