Orlando Pirates legend cries foul after Soweto Derby loss to Chiefs

Orlando Pirates reserve team head coach Joseph Makhanya was not pleased with match officials following his side’s DDC Soweto Derby defeat to Kaizer Chiefs.

Duku-Duku’s side went down 2-1 to Amakhosi despite taking the lead in the 75th minute of the match. Just as it looked Pirates would get one over their rivals, they conceded a penalty which Aiden McCarthy converted. Amakhosi then stole all the three points in the last minutes of the match to hand Makhanya his third defeat of the season.

After their Soweto Derby loss, Orlando Pirates remain eighth in the league table and 10 points behind league leaders Stellenbosch FC. Speaking after the match, Makhanya was unhappy with the penalty call 

“It was a game with balance; there are moments that were decided by the referee to make sure he would turn the game around and make sure it swung to the other direction,” he told SuperSport TV.

“But credit to my boys, they worked well; they stuck to the plan, they worked very hard, but again it’s dissatisfaction when kids work so hard, and certain people try to have the influence into the game, it’s something they need to work on it.

“This is junior football they need to learn certain things, especially balancing the game. They must make sure the officiate the correct things,” Makhanya said.
