Orlando Pirates must fill the void left by Sergio Almenara. Meaning, Jose Riveiro will have a new assistant next season.

Orlando Pirates are in the market for a new coach. Interestingly, they have been linked with a former Kaizer Chiefs and Mamelodi Sundowns coach,.

Meanwhile, Jose Riveiro and the Bucs could return from their tour of Europe with a European coach.


Pirates have priotized the need to sign a new coach. This says a lot given that 13 Bucs players are linked with exits out of Mayfair.

“The coach could decide to bring someone from Europe like he did the last time,” the report read on SoccerLaduma.

However, no European targets have been named as yet. However, this report implies that Riveiro could have one or two European coaches in mind. The Bucs have confirmed their pre-season tour of Europe where they will face former European Champions. Moreover, the tour will provide players with a chance to gain experience and to earn exposure.


PSL veteran coach, Steve Komphela is the man reportedly linked with Pirates. The ex-Chiefs and Sundowns coach is unlikely to sign for the Bucs. Ultimately, early indications are that Pirates will sign a European coach to join Riveiro.

“According to sources, Riveiro will be expected to decide in the coming weeks about the finalisation of his technical team. Meanwhile, rumours have been doing the rounds in Mokoena the fraternity talks that Steve Komphela could be one of the coaches to be considered or the Bucs role,” the same publication reported.
