One man down: Here are Kaizer Chiefs’ central midfield options right now

Kaizer Chiefs have lost a man where no team do not want to lack: central midfield. It’s not a major crisis when you have the depth like Mamelodi Sundowns or Orlando Pirates.

As The South African reported on Tuesday, the 32-year-old central midfielder from Mitchells Plain’s Lentegeur suffered a dislocated shoulder.

Soccer Laduma’s latest update says the former Ajax Cape Town and Bidvest Wits star has had an assessment that confirmed the length of his injury.

“It was reported by the Siya crew last month that Cole Alexander was suspected to have dislocated his shoulder in training, but at the time he was still being assessed to see how long he could be sidelined for,” the outlet said.

“Now, it is believed the former Bidvest Wits man, who joined Amakhosi at the start of the season to reunite with Baxter having worked with him at Indian Premier League outfit Odisha FC, is expected to miss up to six weeks.”

With Alexander set to return around mid-March or early April, who will coach Stuart Baxter look at for the number six and eight roles?

There could be a great six or eight, but Alexander is uniquely gifted to deliver both roles of a six and eight in one.

Anyways, here are Baxter’s options:

Kearyn Baccus
Phathutshedzo Nange
Njabulo Blom
Sabelo Radebe
Teddy Akumu

Versatile options who’ve played in the center before:

Njabulo Ngcobo
Daniel Cardoso
Reeve Frosler.

Meanwhile, Amakhosi are now training to take on TS Galaxy in the Nedbank Cup last 32 on Saturday evening at FNB.
