1999 | Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson was caught driving a BMW on the hard shoulder of the M602 near Manchester. In  October Sir Alex came to court to give his defense,  He said he was running to the toilet. The Bury Resident Magistrate’s Court was told that he was suffering from severe gastroenteritis and severe diarrhea and needed a toilet so he drove on the hard shoulder to get past a traffic jam. He was released.
